Berko Belles in training to walk the chalk!

The Iain Rennie Hospice at Home (IRHH) is delighted to have signed up team 'Berko Belles' for 2009's brand new event, the Chilterns 3 Peaks Challenge.

Berko Belles

The challenge, either a 5 or 9 mile route, taking place at 9am on Sunday 20th September 2009 from Princes Risborough, takes in the famous Ridgeway Path, including three of the most well-known peaks in the Chiltern Hills - Whiteleaf Cross, Coombe Hill and Ivinghoe Beacon. You can choose to either Run, Walk or Jog the route. Whichever you do you'll be helping to raise much needed funds for the charity.

Karen Buchanan (pictured -2nd right) who works for our sister charity, The Pepper Foundation, brought together the Berko Belles who are a group of long standing friends from - surprisingly - Berkhamsted!

Karen said "We have talked about getting involved in a challenge that we could do as a group for a while. We wanted something local, that was fun and is a personal goal for all of us in different ways. This event fitted the bill perfectly!

For my own part, I wanted to do something for IRHH because they cared for my late husband, Mick, when he was fighting cancer 4 years ago. The care our Iain Rennie nurses gave to Mick, myself and our children helped us all cope with what was unfolding before us. Our nurse's professionalism, understanding, compassion, support and calm reassurances made a massive difference to all of us. We were able to stay together, as a family at home, for as long as possible because of the help and love we got from our Iain Rennie nurse."

Team Berko Belles are already in training for the event walking to work, walking their dogs and playing tennis. The team is aiming to do some more intense training together after the Pepper Foundation show in August.

So why not get your own team together, to run, walk or jog the peaks (you can even include your dog!), think up a name, have fun, get fit and raise much needed funds for Iain Rennie!

The money raised will be vital for the Iain Rennie Hospice at Home which costs more than £3 million a year to run, and with only 12% of funding coming from the Government they rely heavily on events like the Chilterns 3 Peaks Challenge to keep their nurses on the road.
